So Funny!

At a board I frequent on occasion, someone posted this diagram of how blog comments work, which is so hilarious because it applies to about any slightly contentious Internet forum/blog I've been to. Humans are predictable creatures.

Then, someone else posted a lightbulb joke as a variation on the same topic... I've clearly spent too much online, because that was all frighteningly familiar.

How many message board posters does it take to change a lightbulb?

One to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed.

Fourteen to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently.

Seven to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs.

Seven more to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs.

Five to flame the spell checkers.

Three to correct spelling/grammar flames.

Six to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ...

Another six to condemn those six as stupid.

Fifteen to claim experience in the lighting industry and give the correct spelling.

Nineteen to post that this group is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb (or light bulb) forum.

Eleven to defend the posting to the group saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this group.

Thirty six to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty.

Seven to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs.

Four to post that the URLs were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL.

Three to post about links they found from the URLs that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group.

Thirteen to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too".

Five to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy.

Four to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"

Thirteen to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs."

Three to tell a funny story about their cat and a light bulb.

and

One group lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now with something unrelated and start it all over again!

Blogs are a great invention because you get to read all kinds of interesting info you wouldn't find out otherwise. I stumbled upon a link to Ken Levine's blog, who was a writer on Cheers and Frasier. He gives insight on those shows, and on other writing matters. Fascinating. Well worth the read.

Interesting Writing Blog

Jane Espenson, a TV writer who has worked on Buffy, Jake in Progress, Gilmore Girls, Firefly, and a bunch of others, has a blog that focuses on writing. Her June 4th entry about comedic and dramatic characters is particularly interesting. She uses examples from Arrested Development, The Office, and Seinfeld to make her point as to why comedic characters are unintentionally funny whereas dramatic characters are intentionally funny. Interesting stuff. As a whole though, I thought it might be a blog of interest to you, Gina. She deals with screenwriting, which is not necessarily your style, but from the few posts on her blog I've read, it seems interesting stuff.

Happy First Birthday, Blog!

I cannot believe it has been a year since I started this blog. I really didn't think I'd get into it but 185 posts later, I think I misunderestimated (mmm...nonsensical word!) its power. ;)

To celebrate, I thought it would be appropriate to post a sweet X-Files-themed video I found on (where else?)You Tube. It is set to the lovely song "We Belong Together" by Gavin de Graw. I thought it was very apropos since I meet so many of the people here through an X-Files board, and I think we all belong together. Hee. Okay, I'm done with the cheesy love fest, and I promise to bring back my sarcastic self pronto. ;)

I had to add one more video to my favourite TV UST relationship of the moment: Pam and Jim. It is really well done, I thought, and it is set to the song "These Walls" by Teddy Geiger (I totally bought his album today along with the green Weezer album and Back in Black by AC/DC. Yay for music store clearance sale!)

Margin Tutorial

Okay, guys. I'll just show you what you need to alter in your code to change the margins. One disclaimer though is I don't if all the codes are written exactly the same but at least, you will have an idea what you need to play around with to get that.

For example, the chunk of code in my template that needed to be modified:

What is in red is what needs to be modified. They are the width in pixels of your page. First is #content width, which is the whole width of text. This is roughly approximate to width of main comment (posts) plus the width of the sidebar (which is where your profile & links on the side are located) . However, the number of pixels for content width is usually slightly bigger that the exact total of main + sidebar because it needs to accounts for margins included in the layout. So you will need to change the number of pixels for the content width, and do so as well for the main comment width. In my case, I also made my sidebar a tad larger. The values posted above have already been modified; they were something like 560 px, 330 px& 220 px initially. You just need to increase the values to something you like.

I've played around with the colour scheme of the blog. I'm not sure if I like it. Is it okay to read or is the white font too bright? Should I used a softer colour? Let me know what you think.

I Am Bloggy McBlogerson Today...

Well, I was up very early, thanks to a vomiting cat. She just doesn't seem to learn not to eat leaves from the plant that makes her sick. God knows how she got to them since I thought we put it high enough so it was out of her sight and reach. Anywaaaaayyyyy, I just had to say it seems I would need the t-shirt to the left of this post. Too bad I need to save my money for some real work clothes instead.

I've Really Become Addicted to This Blogging Thing!

Ahem. Not surprising. It is fun to write about random things. Well, just a few lines to log in an awesome blog I just found: Rick Mercer's Blog Rick Mercer is to Canadian politics what Jon Stewart is to American politics. Rick was for 10 years on the fake newscast show (sounds familiar?) This Hour Has 22 Minutes, and he now has a show called Monday Report that lampoons Canadian politics. His show is now moving to Tuesday even though it's a very highly rated show (bizarre) so it will get a name change. Anyway, I'm happy about the move because it means I'll be able to watch since I was never home on Mondays, and always forgot to tape it.

He now has a blog for his wonderful rants, and he appears to love Photoshop manipulations! Some of the references may be a bit obscure for non-Canadians but it is still funny.

First Post

I'm really just testing. I used to be at livejournal which was intuitive. This site is baffling me so far. Clearly, I'm not necessarily living up to my moniker. Let's hope I pick it up. :)
