I Wrote A New Office Fic...

entitled Paper Jam. It could be subtitled: "What I Wouldn't Do to Avoid Writing Reports and Do My Income Taxes." Hee. No, actually, I just felt really compelled to write that story, and more miraculously, I was able to finish it. I have at least five or six unfinished fanfics since September that are just lying dead on my hard drive. Sometimes, I just seem to have a chunk of story without anything else, and I usually don't force my hand to try to finish it. However, I do feel proud and satisfied of myself when I am able to write a whole story I feel doesn't suck totally. :)

Oh Kids!

You know your fandom is all grown up when you get caught in fandom wanking... There are actually people online who spend their time commenting on other people's insane fights on the Internet. What a weird and unproductive way to spend your time, not even participating in discussions on topics you like, although I guess making fun of total strangers is probably a hobby to some. The Internet is a strange place...

In other news, I've been back in Toronto for a week. Always a bit challenging to get back in the swing of things after the Holidays, but life is good overall. I am taking down my Christmas tree today, which makes me a bit sad. See you in 11 months, Christmas tree and ornaments and twinkly lights.

I got a lot of music for Christmas. My 2 current addictions: Justin Timberlake's Futuresex/Lovesounds (I know, shameful but it is highly entertaining!) and Ok Go's Oh No!

This Is A Post Without A Title Because It Is Full of Random Stuff...

My writing muse struck again: Wild Horses. There is something about certain songs that just inspires me. Incidentally, I wasn't listening to the original version of Wild Horses when I wrote this, but to the cover by Alicia Keys and Adam Levine (of Maroon 5). I highly recommend it. Anyway, it is just a beautiful song.

A fellow Office fan compiled the colours of Jim's shirts and Pam's cardigans across episodes just because I dared her to.(She had compiled Jim's tie patterns last week, and I was kind of joking around...) First of all, what better use of Excel is there? ;) Second, I am amazed there are some people as geeky as I, who think stats can be fun. Finally, I think I may have discovered myself some powers of persuasion that I can use for evil. LOL (Yeah, I wish.)

Rented a documentary called Stupidity last night. Eh. It felt full of filler, and for a documentary deploring the pervasiveness of stupidity, I didn't exactly it offered a lot of insight into anything.

I made some fresh salsa, and mint & shredded chicken noodles last night. So, so good.

Because YouTube is awesome as always, I found a clip of an old SNL episode with Justin Timberlake as host. I remember being surprised how good he was. It had a skit where he played Jessica Simpson. It still cracks me up...

TV-Related Comments...

- I had Seinfeld playing in the background, and it was the sponge episode. I heard a familiar voice in the background talking with Elaine... Turns out that Elaine's sponge-worthy guy? Is Scott Patterson from The Gilmore Girls. How about that. He is really hard to recognize though. I don't know what it is, maybe the hair.

- Tina Fey announced she is leaving SNL. I used to like her a lot of SNL, but Weekend Update has not been so good lately so maybe a shake-up will be good. I'm sad though to see Rachel Dratch leaving as well.

- I finally got courage to post online some Office fanfiction I wrote. It had been kicking around for a while on my hard drive, and I finally finished editing it and got the courage to post it. Ah yes, my friends, that is my dirty little secret. I can't help writing fiction. I'm not a great writer by any mean, but I love it. I used to write X-Files fanfic (without posting it) and now, I write Office fanfic. Anyway, if you are curious, they live here: A Walk in The Rain and To Make You Feel My Love.

I Thought Nothing Could Surprise Me About The Internet...

Yet, someone at a board I visit pointed something I did not know existed: Hitler Slashfic. I was aware that people wrote fan fiction about real people and found that unbelievably creepy, but this really takes the cake. I haven't looked at/read any of them (this is the kind of mental scarring I can do without), but the same person who pointed that out said there was a Hitler/Stephen Colbert fic in there. Brain...Cannot...Compute. Seriously? Romance stories about Hitler. It could be featured on the Colbert Report's segment: "That's The Craziest F%?&ing Thing I've Ever Seen". Some people REALLY REALLY need to redirect their writing energy to something else.

Interesting Writing Blog

Jane Espenson, a TV writer who has worked on Buffy, Jake in Progress, Gilmore Girls, Firefly, and a bunch of others, has a blog that focuses on writing. Her June 4th entry about comedic and dramatic characters is particularly interesting. She uses examples from Arrested Development, The Office, and Seinfeld to make her point as to why comedic characters are unintentionally funny whereas dramatic characters are intentionally funny. Interesting stuff. As a whole though, I thought it might be a blog of interest to you, Gina. She deals with screenwriting, which is not necessarily your style, but from the few posts on her blog I've read, it seems interesting stuff.

A Poem That Is a Palindrome

This is the kind of thing that puts me in awe of some people's creativity. (I can't link to it directly, but it is under "Other things". Click on poems, and then on "Dammit I'm mad.")

Deep Thoughts on Another Silly Quiz

"What Disney Princess Are You?"

Belle
You love you family (what's left) dearly, and you're a bookworm. Get your head into the world darlin'.

Eh. I just like the idea that I am Belle because I always thought she was the coolest of the female Disney characters. She had more spine than the others. lol Disney has really sanitized fairytales. Originally, these stories were told orally to scare adults and children into behaving well. Not that I necessarily agree with that philosophy, seeing as children tend to be afraid of so many things as youngsters. Plus, of course, women were often demonized in those stories as they were in the literature in general. The women were the temptresses, the witches, the ones who would doom the soul of pure little children. Still, the stories served a purpose. Now, their main contribution is to selling movies, toys, stuffed dolls, t-shirts,... Plus, they project this idea that women need to be rescued by the men around them. We then spend our lives having to get those patterns out of our minds. There has got to be a way to tell fairytales that are empowering to children, especially girls. I realize that is a very feminist thing to say, but then again, there is
nothing wrong with that. I'm happy to try to make the world a little easier for the girls who will follow.
Books for older kids certainly portray many awesome girls but the fairytales, of the traditional kind anyway, seem to be lagging a bit in the feminist department. These magical tales should still be around since they are so much fun but could the girls sprout wings for once and fly on their own? I've got my first fairy tale right there...
"Camille and the Fairy Wings"
A long time ago, in a land far far away, lived a girl named Camille. Her parents were the King and the Queen of Terrabene, and the whole family lived in an enormous castle on the north side of the land. Camille could only see the dense Terrabene woods from her bedroom window. Camille would sit at her window for hours, wishing she was a bird who could fly over the forrest. She was sure the view from above would be breathtaking.
I need to get back to work. I shall continue the fairytale later on. :)
