The Wonder That Is The Internet! Plus YouTube-a-palooza!

Those who know me in real life know I have a fairly unusual name. So I was really surprised when someone with the same exact name contacted me on Facebook and she lives right near where I live. How crazy is that? Especially given that she speaks French, and it is not exactly full of French speakers around here. I thought that was cool.

I couldn't sleep early this morning so I played with YouTube from links at a board I frequent. But whenever I get one link, it leads me to something else and so now... Anyway, I present to you fun clips from my hunt.

100 Movies, 100 Quotes, 100 Numbers. This video is amazing. They've compiled 100 movie clips with each number from 1 to 100. It's so cool. Oh, and I had totally guessed what they would use for number 11! LOL (11, 43, and 71 are in my Top 20 favourite movies! :))

Holy Lack of Science Knowledge, Batman!

I was looking up an urban legend and stumbled upon this real clip of the French version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire during my snooping around:

The question was "What revolves around the Earth?" The choices were a) the Moon, b) the Sun, c) Mars, and d) Venus. The ignorance of the most basic scientific knowledge displayed not only by the contestant, but by the whole audience just dismayed me so much. Poor Copernicus is spinning in his grave.

Yes, I Am Still Alive...

I've been super busy recently so I haven't had the time and/or energy to blog. But anyway, I am still around. I just had to post a hilarious parody of Studio 60 (which I watch because of the good acting while simultaneously hating it because the storylines are lame & stalking is apparently real love). The Daily Show: Awesomely Cringeworthy

Last night's coverage of the Mark Foley scandal on TDS is why this show is brilliant. So biting, but pretty darn appropriate in the situation. (And they used Monty Python!) If you watch the second part, I can't believe Newt Gingrich's comment about not stopping a pedophile because that would have been perceived as gaybashing. WTF? No words. Oh, and years of NAMBLA jokes finally paid off. Although I really wished they didn't.

Steve, That's A Stupid Thing To Say and You're A Stupid Person For Saying It!

I have been MIA for a bit. Life is insane, and I just forget to blog. I'm tired, but it is a good tired.

Last week, as part of their 10 F&%#ing Years retrospective on The Daily Show, there was a segment of the best of Even Stephven, which is one of my favourite recurring segments ever on the show. It features Steve Carell and Stephen Colbert yelling, insulting each other, and fake crying a lot. It makes me laugh so so much:


I'm so happy nice YouTubers exist so I can rewatch these outstanding segments over and over again!

An ad for a British movie channel that is chock full of celebrities. It has Lucy Liu, Rhys Ifans, Mackenzie Crook (Gareth from The Office UK), Willem Dafoe, Gael Garcia Bernal. Awesome. And yes, Ewan is dressed up as a tomato. I love him for it.

Happy First Birthday, Blog!

I cannot believe it has been a year since I started this blog. I really didn't think I'd get into it but 185 posts later, I think I misunderestimated (mmm...nonsensical word!) its power. ;)

To celebrate, I thought it would be appropriate to post a sweet X-Files-themed video I found on (where else?)You Tube. It is set to the lovely song "We Belong Together" by Gavin de Graw. I thought it was very apropos since I meet so many of the people here through an X-Files board, and I think we all belong together. Hee. Okay, I'm done with the cheesy love fest, and I promise to bring back my sarcastic self pronto. ;)

I had to add one more video to my favourite TV UST relationship of the moment: Pam and Jim. It is really well done, I thought, and it is set to the song "These Walls" by Teddy Geiger (I totally bought his album today along with the green Weezer album and Back in Black by AC/DC. Yay for music store clearance sale!)

Blog Design & Television Critic Association Awards

I've played around with the layout of the blog because I just realized that it looked like crap on Mozilla (it had no left margin) while it looked perfectly fine on Explorer. It looks a bit better now, but it is still not perfect in Mozilla. I do hope it is easier to read if you are using a Mozilla browser.

On to awards I know nothing about! The Television Critics Association, appears to have been giving awards for the last 20 years! I saw on Office Tally that the Office had been nominated amongst others, but what really caught my eye was the category of Individual Achievement in Comedy. The nominees are Steve Carell ("The Office"), Stephen Colbert ("The Colbert Report"), Lauren Graham ("Gilmore Girls"), Jason Lee ("My Name Is Earl"), and Jon Stewart (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart"). Wow, this is like Sophie's Choice but four ways. ;) I could never pick who of Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart or Lauren Graham should win! So Gilmore Girls was not very good this year, but Lauren Graham has been recognized so little for her amazing acting on that show that she deserve to win for the whole run. The Colbert Report and The Office have both been so so so good. This is one tough category.

OH MY GOD!

Okay, last night's episode of The Office will go down as one of my all-time favourite television episodes! I don't think I could do justice to the clever dialogue, the brilliant acting by the whole cast, the misdirections in the plot, and the most touching yet simple love declaration, which no one (even my spoiled little self) saw coming at all!

To recap for the non-Office watchers: Jim has been pining for Pam for years, but she is his best friend, and she is engaged to be married very soon. Pam is not particularly crazy about her fiance, but she stays with him before they've been together for 10 years and it is a comfortable situation. Anyway, we think Jim is coming to inform Pam that he has been granted a transfer to a different branch of the company, because his boss has mentioned to him that he should announce it to other staff members. Jim asked for a transfer because he knows he will never get Pam. He has decided that he needs to move on with his life, and he can't stand to watch her get married. Instead of talking about his transfer, he says to Pam "I'm in love with you.", and she is flabbergasted. So is the audience. She doesn't understand why he has to say this now, and he says: "I needed you to know...once." She turns him down, saying she can't. You see his eyes well up, and he wipes a tear as he walks away. I had to look away from the screen, because it was too much. My heart dropped in my stomach. Man, that is good TV! Jenna Fischer and John Krasinski acted their butt off in that scene.

The last scene of the episode has Pam on the phone with her mother, talking about what just happened with Jim. The camera slowly pulls away so you think, this is all over for the season. But then, Jim enters the frame. You think he has come to finally tell her he is leaving the company...but he kisses her instead. And she reciprocates. Fade to black. We have to wait until September/October for the rest. Ahhhhhh... Anyway, I will fully admit I squeed at that last scene!
